        Chasing Clouds: A Decade of Studies is Emily Cheng’s first show in Beijing, The exhibition of 20 studies will be accompanied by a comprehensive book monograph of her works by the same title, just published by Timezone 8. Comprising 300 full-color reproductions of Cheng’s studies and paintings and essays by renowned critics/curators Johnson Chang and Kevin Power.
Chasing Clouds offers an as-yet-unseen glimpse at the process behind Cheng’s major works. Drawing from sources as varied as European tapestries, medieval illuminated manuscripts and Buddhist paintings, the sketches, studies, drawings and paintings of Chasing Clouds make for an intimate portrait of Cheng’s artistic process.

Emily Cheng Bio: 
        A New York based artist, Cheng has had over twenty solo shows in the United States and abroad, including shows at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), the Hanart Gallery in Hong Kong, and the Bronx Museum. Cheng has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and studied at the New York Studio School. She is the recipient of a fellowship from the New York Foundation of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, and a Yaddo Fellowship. She currently teaches Asian Art History at The School of Visual Arts, in New York, and has taught as a visiting artist in painting the Rhode Island School of Design, Cal Arts, and NYU.
Emily Cheng has exhibited in the US and internationally. Her solo shows in Manhattan include Plum Blossom Gallery, Winston, Wachter Fine Art, David Beiztel Gallery, and Lang and O'Hara Gallery. She has had three solo shows at the Schmidt Dean Gallery in Philadelphia, and has had solo shows at Hanart Gallery in Hong Kong, Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Philippines, Bravin Post Lee Gallery in New York, Byron Cohen Gallery in Kansas City, MO., The Bronx Museum, and the Cincinatti Center of Contemporary Art, Ohio, Ayala Museum in Manila. Group exhibitions have included MASS MoCA, MA.; Contemporary Art Museum at USF, Tampa, Florida; Hammond Museum, NY; Yerba Buena Contemporary Art Center, SF; National Academy of Arts, NY; Carnegie Mellon University Galleries, Rubin Museum.

        Emily has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and studied at the New York Studio School. She is the recipient of a fellowship from the New York Foundation of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, and a Yaddo Fellowship.
Emily currently teaches Asian Art History at The School of Visual Arts, in New York. She has taught semesters as a visiting artist in painting at Rhode Island School of Design, Cooper Union, Cal Arts, NYU, Parsons, and Univ. of Minnesota.
