It has been 20 days since Safiullah (14) had both of his legs amputated in Kandahar, Afghanistan on July 11, 2007. Safiullah was a policeman in Kandahar and was on a patrol when he walked on an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) left by the Taliban. His friend, Daher, is helping him at Kandahar's hospital. US President George W. Bush and Afghani President Hamid Karzai began talks on August 6, 2007 to discuss the dangerous situation in Afghanistan. Despite some recent success on the ground fighting the Taliban, NATO and Coalition troops face a daunting challenge in the country. Rising anger over collateral damage to civilians, a surging opium trade that has seen the country's output pass 90% of the world's supply and the continued resurgence of the Taliban provide clear evidence that the difficulties within the strategically important nation are growing larger.
